Records of the St. Clair County Probate Court, 1828-1838.

This record group consists of the record of proceedings of the St. Clair County Probate Court for the years 1828-1838. The two volumes contain longhand written copies of all the records submitted to and issued by the Probate Court including: warrants for appraisal of goods being probated; lists and values of property and goods; claims against the estate; letters to and from the court about estate administration and settlement; costs and changes incurred in the settlement of the estate by the court appointed administrator; petitions for the sale of estate property; and final court decrees closing the estate. The proceedings are arranged chronologically.

The two volumes are the recording of the proceedings of the Probate Court for St. Clair County, held at Clay (now Algonac), during which the estates of those who died intestate were settled. At this time, St. Clair County included what is now St. Clair, Huron, Sanilac, Tuscola and part of Lapeer counties. John K.
